DOT physical FAQs

Common reasons drivers get delayed — and how to avoid it.

Blood pressure

If your blood pressure is elevated, you may receive a shorter certification period or be asked for follow-up documentation. Bring your medication list if you take BP meds.

Sleep apnea / CPAP

If you use a CPAP, bring a compliance report. If you’ve been referred for a sleep study, we’ll need results or documentation that meets DOT standards.

Vision

You must test using the corrective lenses you drive with. Bring your glasses or contacts (and a backup if you have one).

Medications

Bring a current medication list. If a medication requires provider documentation, we’ll tell you exactly what form is needed.

For employers

Send drivers with the right info so everything stays smooth.

Best practice

  • Send drivers early (mornings are fastest)
  • Confirm they bring ID + corrective lenses
  • Ask them to bring medication list + relevant documents
