How the random program works

Here’s the typical flow — simple and audit-friendly.

Program flow

  1. Enroll: provide company/driver details and activate membership
  2. Random pool: drivers are placed into the selection pool
  3. Selection: a driver may be selected 0–4 times/year (varies)
  4. Notification: we notify you with instructions and timeframe
  5. Collection: driver completes test during the required window
  6. Documentation: results and program records maintained

What we handle

  • Enrollment + renewals
  • Random selections + notification workflow
  • Coordination for collections (when selected)
  • Certificates and compliance documentation
  • Support for owner-operators & small fleets

Requirements to stay in compliance

These are the most common rules that cause issues during audits.

Pre-employment drug test

Before a driver performs safety-sensitive work for an employer, DOT rules generally require a negative pre-employment drug test result.

Keep your info updated

Random selections only work if we can reach you quickly. Keep phone/email updated so a selection doesn’t turn into a compliance problem.

Don’t miss the testing window

If a driver is selected, the test must be completed within the required timeframe. Missed tests can be treated as refusals.

Consortium & random program FAQ

Quick answers for the most common questions.

Who needs a consortium?

Many owner-operators and small fleets enroll to meet DOT random testing obligations when they have safety-sensitive drivers subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing rules.

How often are drivers selected?

Selections vary. A driver may be selected multiple times or not at all during a year, depending on program requirements and random selection outcomes.

What happens if a driver misses a test?

Missed or refused tests can create serious compliance issues. If a driver is selected, they must complete testing during the required window.

Will I get documentation for an audit?

Yes — enrollment documentation/certificates and program records are maintained to support compliance.
